One of the keys to current commercial office energy conservation is bi-level switching. "Bi-level" means that you can have ceiling lights on one switch but also task lights such as a desk lamp with a separate switch. By having the dual controls, each individual can use only the light that he or she needs for a particular task. The adjustable candleholder lets someone raise or lower the light according to his or her needs to read something in detail or to illuminate a larger portion of a room. The ink sketches are all from field observations drawn on fold-out sketch books, most of which are about seven feet long.
