Smart controls start with bi-level switching for lighting.
One of the keys to current commercial office energy conservation is bi-level switching. "Bi-level" means that you can have ceiling lights on one switch but also task lights such as a desk lamp with a separate switch. By having the dual controls, each individual can use only the light that he or she needs for a particular task. The adjustable candleholder lets someone raise or lower the light according to his or her needs to read something in detail or to illuminate a larger portion of a room. The top of this candleholder includes an adaptation of the tulip motif, which is also evident on the top of fence posts, inverted as details on rooflines, and carved into gables of houses as part of the ventilation system.
